More ImagesMy CollectionInspired by moths and beetles, my collection is a luxurious mixture of textures and rich colours. The fragile qualities of the moth and the beautiful colours are combined with the tougher elements of beetles. Playing with matte fabrics and sheen. Details such as small, covered buttons are high sheen, like pins through moth specimens. The delicate nature of a moth's wing plays a key role in the collection. Looking at the wing in detail led to me making some pieces of my collection in many sections, mimicking the fragile nature of the wing cell. The irregular movement and skeletal nature are both beautiful and intriguing. I chose to use silk georgette because of it's fragility and transparency, and teamed this with crepe back satin and morrocain. The satin has a fluidity that lends to my chosen theme, and the high sheen of this fabric contrasts well with the matte georgette. The two textures work very well together, and the satin highlights the delicate nature of the georgette. The chosen colours are extremely rich, and are teamed with black for impact. The colours are derived from my research on moths, and the black high sheen fabrics are my interpretation of the beetle shells. Volume vs restriction, freedom vs control. Result: A sophisticated and elegant Collection. |
