I wanted to deviate from the pieces seen in previous equestrian inspired collections that were traditional in style, and find something that incorporated the current trend ‘eclectic’. I researched into the history of horses and came across the Native American Indian. The garments merge a variety of things associated with both themes. Take for example the curved seaming that reflects the curve of the saddle. This moves away from the dull side seam and can be seen in the body con dress and skirt. The detail also draws the eye to the female natural hourglass shape. In the loose fitting dress I have incorporated an abstract print of the a dream catcher web and on the halter neck top hangs a number of plaited pieces which add the effect of a necklace without having to add one yourself. The elasticated waist is not hidden but made a key detail of the collection and is inspired by the equestrian need for effortless garments. The ruffle effect as made by the elastic is imitated in the vest and evening cape to add femininity. On the skirt is also an adjustable hem which can take the silhouette from ‘A’ line to pencil, to suit different shapes. The colour palette derives straight from the native frontier, each colour possibly a natural dye, keeping to the organic nature associated with the Native American Indian. To add a touch of tradition, suit collars are seen in the outerwear garments and fabrics will be luxurious, chiffon, fine jerseys, wool blends, and stretch cotton drill for comfort. To compliment the traditional details I have designed a t-shirt print which is an amalgamation of the two themes. This collection will take the ‘my-wardrobe.com’ woman from work into evening and is created with easy styling in mind. |
