"She's So Fine..."
High Summer 2008 Capsule Collection

It's time to click those fingers and jive to the sights and sounds of 1950's American retro!

At the height of 1950's American summertime, courting couples can be spotted stealing a quick kiss in the drive-in movie theatre, later joining friends in the local Steak 'n' Shake for a hamburger and fries. Late evenings are danced away to the popular sounds of Elvis, Bill Haley and Chuck Berry- where the dancefloor fills with colourful swing skirts. It is a wonder how anyone can breathe with the tightly cinched waist hourglass fashions. But then again, pain is beauty! Cuffed bobbie socks are worn with suede shoes and sleeves are always rolled on short sleeve shirts, complete with a scarf around the neck. Whatever the look, it is always to be feminine and presentable.

Presently, celebrities such as Dita Von Teese and Christina Aguilera in her music video, 'Candyman', capture and bring to life an essence of this era, representing a modern but albeit a somewhat literal take. These ladies have a style which reflects the customer base for my collection entitled 'She's So Fine'. The wearer will be confident and independant, girly and delicate. The look is feminine and sexy yet tasteful and smart- an image which can be adapted whatever your age. Think Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly.

Artists such as Andy Warhol brought vivid colour to the decade, with the advent of the Pop Art movement. This has been the inspiration for the injections of bright colour amongst the gentle pastel shades within the collection, along with the prediction that the current block colour trend will continue into 2008. Pop Art also reflects a mood of the 1950's, offering a more relaxed, laid back and 'fun' feel in comparison to the more formal fashions of the forties. Naturally, the silhouettes of popular dress styles of the fifties have provided the basic shapes to the garments in the collection, which have been adapted to suit modern day style. A line drawing of a 1950's moped will be used as a repeat print.

Post World War II was a prosperous and confident America. Women were begining to see a significant change in their role within society and expectations were changing.

I want to bring this fifties feeling of freedom, colour and prosperity into modern day style.
